Job Description:

Licensed clinicians are eligible for up to $50,000 in student loan forgiveness because CALM is an NHSC approved site.This is an in-person position.The School Based Mental Health Consultant (MHC) is responsible for providing on-site mental health consultation services to strengthen the capacity of school staff, administrators, and families to respond to the social-emotional and behavioral needs of children. This position works across Santa Barbara Unified School District elementary schools.

Essential Functions-- Guide implementation of the mental health consultation model that includes child and family-focused, classroom-focused, and program-focused consultation.-- Collaborate with administrators, school staff, and families to understand and respond effectively to mental health needs, behavioral difficulties, and/or developmental challenges.-- Conduct classroom observations, gather historical information, and complete screenings/assessments.-- Meet with school staff and families to review assessment and observation data and develop goals.-- Develop written plans to assist school staff and families with strategies that promote resilience, optimize social-emotional development, and address primary concerns.-- Provide developmentally appropriate skills groups, crisis intervention, and/or stabilization services as needed-- Build and strengthen the capacity of school staff and families to manage challenging child behavior through coaching, role play, modeling, and reflective capacity.-- Connect and refer children, families, and school staff to community-based services and resources as needed.-- Provide trainings on issues and skills pertinent to social-emotional development (e.g., trauma, attachment, self-care, stress management, transitions, and more).-- Administer periodic assessments and/or social-emotional screening to guide, monitor, and communicate the impact of interventions.-- Conduct regular consultation meetings with school staff and administrators to monitor progress, revise goals, and review outcome data.-- Participate in evaluation efforts and commit to continuous quality improvement by incorporating feedback and outcome data into the provision of services.-- Create a shared understanding of the effects of trauma and adversity, including oppression, discrimination, racism, and gender inequity on the developing brain.-- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with community agencies.Education and/or Experience:-- Master's or Doctorate degree required-- Must be either registered or licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), Associate Social Worker (ASW), Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) -OR- eligible to be registered with the CA Board of Psychology as a Psychological Associate or Registered Psychologist-- At least three years of experience working with children in grades pre k-6th-- At least two years' experience working in a mental health profession-- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in child development and early childhood mental health-- Experience working in private or public school site environments preferredQualifications:-- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred (CALM pays an additional $2 per hour to bilingual staff)-- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential-- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required-- Proficient in use of Zoom, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and can adapt to using various types of software-- Capacity to work within the culture or system of the school community-- Ability to work in a busy, noisy, and often dynamic settings where children learn and grow-- Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required-- Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa BarbaraCALM Benefits:Our benefits package includes a competitive salary with hourly compensation ranging from $28 to $36 dependent on experience and education.
