Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Performs independent research and acts as a lab manager for Dr. Kenneth Kosik's laboratory - a large lab consisting of about 30 members (including post docs, graduate students, project scientists and undergraduate students). Performs a variety of difficult research projects involving molecular biology techniques such as human pluripotent stem cell cultures and differentiation into different types of neurons, performing electrophysiological recordings using 2 types of multi-electrode arrays (conventional 128 electrodes from multi channel systems and c-MOS arrays), lentivirus preparation using human cell lines, plasmid transfections, immunostaining, mouse hippocampal and cortical tissue dissections, confocal imaging, mouse handling. Is in charge of the single cell RNA-sequencing platform in the Kosik lab by performing single cell and single nuclei RNA-sequencing on mouse, human cells and human tissues (such as brain tissues from different areas). Performs molecular and biochemical analyses to study cells derived from Williams syndrome patients and 7duplication patients, comparing them to cells from healthy controls. Performs computer assisted analysis of the data. Interprets the data independently and presents reports regularly publishable data to the Kosik group. Engages in weekly subgroup meetings to show advancement in the project. Performs cloning, western blot, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR. Works independently on own project, and also as part of a dedicated team with another Postdoc and a graduate student to understand the mechanisms and underlying transcriptomics changes implicated in the uptake of the protein tau in mouse primary cultures, as well as iPS-derived neurons; contributes original ideas of major methodological significance to the research. Writes common lab protocols and trains and supervises new lab members with the established experimental protocols as well as lab safety protocols. Writes the SCRO protocols for stem cell usage, IACUC protocols for mouse experiments and BUAs. Maintains stocks and aliquots the reagents for the Kosik lab in the stem cell lab. Maintains the continuity of the knowledge of specialized research techniques in the lab and trains new members for safe and sterile cell culture techniques. Supervises and manages a team of lab assistants and undergraduates. Supervises and assigns all the administrative and lab management tasks such as autoclaving biohazardous materials, glassware and managing stocks for the Kosik lab. Oversees the maintenance of laboratory equipment and assures that it gets fixed in a timely manner. Places orders for the reagents and equipment. Requests quotes, negotiates pricing, and ensures that grants are spent appropriately. Works with DEA to obtain license for controlled substances for the lab and keeping a proper record for DEA audits. Prepares and updates lab Chemical Hygiene Plan. Gives safety training and orientation for new lab members. Oversees regulatory compliance of the lab. Coordinates distribution of reagents to the other labs upon request. Trains new lab members on safely using autoclaves. Is on call after hours for lab emergencies. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, and as part of a larger collaborative group working on neurodegeneration and neural plasticity.

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in Neuroscience or related filed. Minimum 5 years experience in neurobiology laboratory, single cell RNA sequencing and data analysis, mammalian cell electrophysiology; lab managing & administration and protocol writing experience required.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, and a part of a larger collaborative group working on neurodegeneration and neural plasticity.
