Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Campus Hazardous Waste Program Coordinator
Under general supervision, responsible for a variety of professional duties at the operational level, including developing and implementing strategies and procedures for managing operations pertaining to the Campus Hazardous Waste Program.

Minimum Requirements
General knowledge of scientific nomenclature and procedures related to the safe handling of hazardous materials in a laboratory setting. Skill and experience in operating and using analytical instruments and various computer skills.

Desirable Requirements
BA/BS in biology, chemistry, environmental health/science, or related scientific discipline (Extensive hazardous waste field experience may be substituted for degree requirement). Minimum of one year's experience in the operational component (technical & field) of a hazardous waste program (preferably in a college or university setting). General knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations related to hazardous waste management.

4) Valid Class C Calif. Drivers license eligible for commercial/hazardous materials endorsement
5) Able to move heavy objects (e.g. 55-gal. drums filled with liquid)
6) Willing to work/respond to emergencies involving potentially hazardous chemicals and radioactive substances.

Hazardous Waste Program Operations
Performs all operational (technical & field) aspects of the campus Hazardous Waste Program in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations as well as campus policies and procedures. Supervises part-time employees in program operations.

Performs routine collection of hazardous materials/waste and universal waste from a variety of locations on and off campus. Reviews pickup requests for waste acceptance and safe transportation procedures.

Perform the collection, packaging and disposal of all laboratory sharps (e.g. hypodermic needles, syringes, razor blades and scalpel blades), as well as glass items defined by the Medical Waste Management Act. Segregate the various types of sharps waste, including chemically contaminated sharps, bio-hazardous sharps and non-hazardous sharps.
