The Office of Admissions is charged with assisting the campus in reaching its undergraduate admission and enrollment objectives in accordance with the University mission and campus enrollment goals. Department efforts are focused upon increasing the academic quality and diversity of the entering class while maintaining the required enrollment level.
Admissions seeks to implement the campus admission goals by providing a number of services and events.
Admissions promotes postsecondary education; encourages applications from historically underserved populations and schools; provides admission information to high school and community college counselors, teachers and administrators; provides admission advice to prospective freshman and transfer students; reviews and evaluates applications; develops recruitment strategies and events for admitted students; reviews coursework for transfer credit; and creates a presence on campus that is consistent with UCSB's mission and high academic standards.
These services are provided by three units within the department: Visitor Center, Outreach Services, and Application Services.

Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Campus Tour Coordinator/ Admissions Counselor
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Visitor Center, and working in coordination with other members of the Admissions Visitor Center staff, organizes and implements the Campus Tour Program to accommodate approximately 50,000 annual campus visitors. Establishes procedures and coordinates campus tours for prospective students and their families or peers, counselors, teachers, and community members. Recruits, interviews, trains, and supervises 50-80 undergraduate University students to serve as tour guides annually. Serves as the staff advisor to the Gaucho Tour Association (GTA), a registered UCSB campus organization whose membership is comprised of current student tour guides. Working with the Assistant Director for the Visitor Center, oversees the daily planning and implementation of all special events coordinated by the Visitor Center and assists the Campus Visit Coordinator with special visits to the campus.
Provides College Advising Program presentations throughout the year and on occasional Saturdays to strengthen applicant/enrollment efforts. Interprets the University's administrative and academic policies and procedures to prospective students and parents by providing pre-admission information related to academic offerings, student services, admission requirements, and other individualized inquires. Must have a thorough working knowledge of university admission requirements and have demonstrated basic understanding of financial aid, orientation, EOP opportunities, scholarships, and housing options. Must exercise professional judgment in the interpretation and implementation of the UC's educational process.
Identifies, selects, and arranges for tour guides to assist with select yield events including, but not limited to, Spring Insight Open House, regional receptions, campus conferences, Jump Start, LA2SB, UC Counselor Conference and campus collaborations.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of years of experience. Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation. Ability to represent the University to K-12 school administrators, teachers, counselors and prospective UCSB students, their families and communities at the highest professional level. Ability to relate to and work well with students from diverse backgrounds, manage work load, prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects under the pressure of tight timelines. Excellent public speaking skills, experience conducting workshops, and academic advising. Excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge and experience working in California high schools and community colleges, and experience working with programs and community agencies promoting higher education. M.A. preferred.
