Day or Nights Shifts AvailableJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYThe Inpatient CNA is a member of the Hospice Team who works under the supervisions of the Inpatient Registered Nurse to provide personal care and various services for patients at the end of life. The Inpatient CNA is responsible for carrying out the duties assigned in order to increase the patient's level of comfort and to maintain personal hygiene and a safe, healthy environment for the patient. The Inpatient CNA fully supports the Core Values and is accountable for upholding the Standards of Behavior of VNA Health.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide personal care as directed by the hospice nurse. Completes each patient's care as delineated in the CNA Care Plan. Rounds on patients every two hours.Provide environmental services as needed, maintain a safe and clean environment through care of the patient's room and personal equipment and perform light housekeeping duties. Equipment checks on oxygen concentrators, suction machine, and clean filters as directed. Cleaning of DVD players.Provide nutritional services to patients as needed, setting up and assisting with meal trays, feeding patient, if necessary. Remove all dirty dishes from patients room and maintain frig, date and label all food left in frig. Remove all food older than 3 days.Report to the hospice nurse or Serenity House Manager, any changes in the patient's physical or emotional condition, including complaints of pain, or the family's situation.Take temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered.Maintain record of daily activity and of direct care provided to the patient.Assist patient/family/caregiver in dealing with terminal care.As assigned and supervised by the hospice nurse, assist the patient with activities which include but are not limited to the following:Assist the patient with sponge, tub or shower bath, use of toilet or commode, grooming and washing hair, mouth care, skin and fingernails (does not clip toenails).Assist with toileting, encouraging bowel and bladder regularity as long as possible.Turns and positions patients, providing proper care and observations of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence.Launder patient's personal laundry if family/friends unable. Cleaning washer& dryer daily. Doing all facility laundry.Follow universal precautions in delivering patient care.Maintain comfortable environment by adjusting lighting, room temperature, changing bed linens as needed. Is alert to safety factors and accident prevention.Assists in ambulation and range of motion exercises as instructed by nurses.Performs post mortem care.Provides therapeutic touch/complimentary therapeutics per patient's request.Has awareness of emotional status of the patient and/or family and is able to understand the emotional problems associated with the terminal illness. Confers with the psychosocial staff as needed.Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings, in-services and skills training to ensure compliance with JCAHO and CLHF regulations.Maintaining soiled and equipment rooms clean and organized. Maintaining all linen carts, stocked and organized. Fill and stock peri wash bottles.Maintaining and stocking contact precautions carts. Unpacking and storing medical supply deliveries.Breaking down boxes in trash room and making sure lids are closed at all times.Admissions and room preparation.Required to do walking rounds with CNA /HHA from previous shift and check condition of patients and rooms.The above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. All staff are expected to participate as needed in variable shifts, including weekend rotation per staffing needs and departmental holiday rotation.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Current and active California Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification.Current CPR certification.One year experience in hospital or nursing home setting preferred.Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.Has empathy for the needs of the ill, frail and impaired. Understands philosophy of hospice care and needs of the terminally ill.Utilizes proper ergonomics and body mechanic techniques.Basic working knowledge and skills of computers (evaluation requirement).Reliable transportation.PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to lift 50 lbs.Ability to lift arms above head.Ability to push/pull 200 lbs.Ability to transfer 170 lbs.Ability to stoop, bend, and squat.Ability to walk up one flight of stairs.Ability to walk one mile.Ability to sit for one hour, minimum.Visual acuity and audio acuity.YUfK3oiEb1
