Overview: The Sr. Staff Electronic Design Engineer leads the electrical design, analysis, prototyping, test, documentation and release of our market leading Atomic Force Microscopes. Responsibilities include the full range of product development from concept through commercialization of advanced analog and mixed-signal electronic designs for precision imaging and metrology instruments. This position requires strong initiative, effective cross-functional teamwork, a hands-on approach and deep technical expertise. This position is based in Santa Barbara, CA.

Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:This position drives the evolution of AFM system control and data acquisition electronics.Typical Responsibilities:Generate engineering requirementsDefine overall electronics architecture, interfaces and theory of operationConvert high level system requirements into sub system specificationsLead design teams and projectsPerform electronics design, analysis, prototyping and system integration.Lead and participate in design reviewsEvaluate performance, reliability and compliance.Drive technical troubleshooting and failure analysisAuthor engineering reports and production release documentation (BOMs, drawings etc.)Coordinate with design services and contract manufacturing partners.Support sustaining engineering activities.Serve as a champion of DFx best practices within the organization.Build relationships with technology leaders throughout Bruker and the broader industry.Other duties as assigned.Some travel to vendor and other international Bruker sites will be required (<10%).KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Required:Proven track record in high-speed, low noise analog electronics design, integration and verification.Experience with digital electronics design (FPGA/Microprocessor) with the ability to program such devices for high speed data processing and low latency.Board and system level motion control, feedback control, data acquisition, system noise analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting.Capable of defining and optimizing electronic system architecture.Experience with OrCAD/Cadence Allegro and Altera/Quartus.Ability to model and analyze designs using PSpice.Capable of defining test requirements and test plans, and building out the electronic test infrastructureHard working, team oriented, curious, creative and committed to quality.Familiar with design and regulatory standards such as IPC, ISO and CE for EMC and Safety compliance.Skillful at hands-on development of product prototypes.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Work cross-functionally as to ensure DFx: Design for reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, test, cost, etc.Good leadership and organizational skills, being able to effectively drive and participate on multiple development projects.Willingness to supervise and mentor others as necessary.DesiredExperience with electronic design for complex scientific instrumentation, metrology equipment or similar products involving high-performance control and data acquisition.Power supply design (switching and linear), high voltage designWORK ENVIRONMENT:Typical office and laboratory environment. Ability and willingness to work periodically in Class 1000 clean room with full gowning protocol.PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Normal visual acuity and hearing.The ability to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds.
