Position Summary The primary purpose of the After School and Summer Day Camp Program Lead Teacher is to provide general supervision of children, assist with online learning, homework, and program activities and the general operations of an effective, fully licensed, cutting edge and Christ centered After School and Summer Day Camp programs for school age children in grades K-6. Hourly Rate Range $16-$18 depending on experience Essential Functions General Responsibilities:Vocational engagement as a Lead Teach of the After School and Day Camp Program is a position of sacred trust representing, nurturing, protecting, and advancing the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army; and serving the needs of the people in our community with dignity and respect. Conduct on and off the job just sustain a positive impact on The Salvation Armys religious goals, programs and public image.As such, all Teachers are expected to learn and fulfil the following responsibilities within the scope of the duties they perform:1. To know, explain, and exemplify the mission, purpose and values of The Salvation Army Santa Barbara.2. To understand all dimensions of The Salvation Army mission and purpose toward the outcome of awareness, cohesiveness, and effective guest services. 3. To create a safe, engaging environment for Santa Barbara associates, guests, members, volunteers, partners and vendors. 4. To provide active support of, and participation in all Santa Barbara campaigns and initiatives.5. To develop appropriate relationships and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with other Salvation Army associates, guests, members, volunteers, partners and vendors. 6. To communicate in an appropriate, professional, responsive and supportive manner.a. Effective interpersonal and electronic communication is essential for mission and purpose.b. Interpersonal communication for day-to-day operational needs is preferred.c. Direct, thoughtful communication for the resolution of questions or conflicts is expected.d. Electronic communication email, texts, etc. is official communication; and supports and confirms interpersonal communication.e. Deference to and public support of group decisions and other Directors scope of expertise, position and responsibilities must be maintained. 7. To maintain appropriate confidentiality some agreements, ideas, processes, or other forms of sensitive information are revealed to certain individuals who are in positions of responsibility or are in possession of qualities or skills that make it necessary for them to know such confidential matters. Such information must be maintained in confidence. 8. To complete annual trainings, to include but not limited to CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, Hazardous Materials, Protecting the Mission, Sexual Harassment, and others as determined. 9. To positively guide and guard all Salvation Army resources people, program, property and finances toward the fulfillment of the mission and purpose, and within the guidelines established by law, policy and procedure. Specific Duties: Program: Oversee and supervise children in assigned groups. Plan, lead and implement daily schedules in coordination with the Site Director and Corps Officer. Plan/Teach/Lead activities and classes as assigned by the Site Director. Assist with homework and educational needs of students. Utilizing Salvation Army vehicles, assist with Transportation from various schools to The Salvation Army and to and from field trips. Assist with break coverage in cooperation with Site Director and Corps Officer. Record data as necessary for program operations. Actively participate with volunteers as appropriate and provide guidance as needed. Property, Safety, & Security: Monitor children and ensure safe conditions at all times. Clean up at the end of the day and set-up for the next days activities. Follow all cleanliness and safety guidelines set by The Salvation Army, County Public Health Department, and or State licensing. At the end of the day ensure classroom, kitchen, and multipurpose room are clean. At the end of the day ensure all doors are locked and equipment is put away. Follow all mandated reporter requirements Maintain all policies and procedures and reporting for Protect The Mission. Maintain all required trainings and maintain clean DMV and criminal record. Networking: Liaison with parents in coordination with Site Director and Corps Officers. Share with Site Director and Corps Officers any new techniques, ideas and or resources to enhance the learning and care of children. Learn and utilize Procare software program to communicate with parents as needed. Participate in tours as requested by Corps Officers and or Site DirectorPromotion and Special Events: Work with Site Director and Corps offices to actively promote special events and fundraising activities for the program. Attend and participate in special events as scheduled.Employees may also be requested to perform other reasonable business-related duties by the Corps Officers. Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 40lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Minimum Qualifications By virtue of its direct contact with, and representation to people who engage in Salvation Army program, people who demonstrate an understating of The Salvation Armys Christian mission are required for this position. Compliance with current California Community Care Licensing requirements. Presently, education in Early Childhood with preferred courses in Early Childhood Education, including Child Development, Child, Family and Community; Early Childhood curriculum (1 2 units or 6 completed semester units of early childhood education AND enrolled in at least 2 semester units at a college until fully qualified.) AND 6 months experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program. (See current California licensing requirements for acceptable alternatives). Valid Pediatric CPR and First Aid card. Must complete a health screening (LIC503) with TB test clearance. Must clear Child Abuse Index & live scan/fingerprint clearance with FBI & Dept of Justice without a waiver from Dept. of Social Services, Community Care Licensing. Complete Protect the Mission supervisory training within 30 days of employment. Maintain a valid California drivers license and continue to have a clean motor vehicle record. Class B with Passenger endorsement preferred. Must successfully complete The Salvation Army Decision Driving and complete annual recertification as required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish preferred. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Must possesses at a minimum, Grade school educational knowledge to assist with homework, tutoring, and online learning. Must be creative, self-motivated, organized, flexible and possess leadership skills; supervisory experience necessary. Expertise in task management, maintaining schedules and related functions. Ability to handle crisis/emergency situations; ability and willingness to keep information confidential as necessary. Ability to read, understand and implement policies, procedures and state mandates. Sensitivity and maturity to promote value and teamwork among children, parents and staff. Working knowledge of Microsoft Software. Have general internet and email knowledge. Ability to function in a fast paced, frequently changing environment. Must possess good Guest Relations skills.
