The Guest Services Associate (GSA) is an attentive, helpful, and welcoming representative of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden who assists everyone entering, leaving, or contacting the Garden. The GSA collects admission and membership fees using a cash register and provides information to visitors about the Garden's mission, grounds, policies, and events. This part-time, (10-19 hours per week), non-exempt position reports to the Guest Services & Membership Coordinator and works as part of a team of public-facing customer service professionals. Work schedule is variable and includes weekends and holidays. RequirementsEssential Duties:Welcome every visitor and provide outstanding customer service to people from all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and knowledge levels. Build and strengthen relationships with the public to improve understanding and support of the Garden's conservation mission. Inform visitors and answer questions regarding the Garden's sections and grounds, rules, activities, and membership opportunities. Collect admission fees, membership contributions, and donations using a point of sale system. Accurately account for all members, visitors, and fees collected during shift and reconcile the cash register.Answer telephone in a friendly manner, efficiently route calls and relay information. Act as a liaison between business visitors and Garden staff. Use the radio when necessary to communicate with grounds crew regarding visitor questions and concerns.Use a tablet, register, Bluetooth card reader, laptop computer, and other technology and equipment located in the kiosk and address or report technical problems to appropriate staff.Staff the parking lot and help ensure traffic flow is safe and efficient; this includes monitoring space availability and directing traffic, as needed. Attend all scheduled GSA Meetings and maintain regular communication with supervisors and team members. Attend monthly All Staff meeting when schedule allows.Learn and adhere to emergency protocols, complete incident reports, and respond to emergencies when required. Project a professional appearance, including neat, clean, and appropriate attire. Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of entrance area, including the kiosk, membership table, and guest bathrooms.Communicate with guests about current COVID-19 safety protocols, including mask-wearing and social distancing expectations. Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to work under pressure and project a friendly and welcoming manner to visitors. Proficient with computers and various software; ability to learn programs as necessary. Familiar with POS systems, such as Shopify and Square.Good written and verbal communication skills.Bilingual fluency preferred.Interact well with others and cooperate in a team environment.Familiar with local natural history and knowledge or interest in native plants and conservation preferred but not required. Minimum Qualifications:Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, helpful attitude.One year of cash register and customer service experience. Certificates and Licenses:Must have reliable transportation.Physical Requirements:Must be capable of strenuous physical work including:Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time, bend, squat and walk the SBBG trailsTolerance of an outdoor work environment. Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including extreme temperature fluctuations, rain, dust, allergens, poison oak, insects, small wild animals, and sun exposure.Availability to work weekend and holiday shifts.Compensation: $14.00 per hour, plus opportunities for bonuses with each membership sold
