The Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Asian American Studies for upcoming openings. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. All positions will be part time.Note: While our lecturer needs will vary by quarter, we are currently looking for candidates to teach our Asian American Mental Health class for this upcoming Spring quarter (3/29/21 - 6/11/21). This class will have a total of 45 students, sophomore standing our higher (no TA). "The class description is as follows: Examination of the current theory and research on the specific psychological issues that affect Asian Americans. Special emphasis on how immigration experiences, cultural values, ethnic identity, and racism influence various aspects of psychosocial functioning." Are next review date for this position will be Jan. 29, 2021.A Master's Degree in Asian American Studies or related field is a minimum requirement; however, candidates with a PhD or ABD in Asian American Studies or related field (or equivalent degree) are preferred. In addition, at least one year of teaching experience is required.Note: at the time of this posting, in order to comply with public safety measures to prevent the spread of covid-19, all courses taught through the University of California, Santa Barbara, are being taught remotely until further notice. Candidates with remote teaching experience will be preferred until in-person instruction resumes.Successful candidates will be hired to teach one or two courses listed in the Department's current curricular offerings. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach mental health, transnationalism, law and immigration, environmental justice, communities, and ethnographies from an Asian American studies perspective.
