Essential Functions of Position

Brief Description:

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Physical Education and work direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s Volleyball Coach provides comprehensive leadership over the Men’s Volleyball team in terms of California Community College Athletic Association ( CCCAA ) compliance, recruiting, ensuring academic progress toward degree, as well as all other aspects of the intercollegiate sport program for Men’s Volleyball, including, but not limited to: planning and executing practice, training, and supervising student-athletes; scheduling athletic contests and arranging transportation; preparing budgets; maintaining athletic equipment, supplies and facilities; and enforcing district, college, and student requirements. Coaching assignments may include day, evening, and weekend classes, on and off campus responsibilities.

Job Duties: Provide instruction, mentoring, and coaching to student athletes in the skills, techniques, and competitive strategies necessary for individual and team achievement. Lead in planning and scheduling competitions, tournaments, and events in collaboration with coaches within and outside of the conference and in concert with academic schedules, District policy and regulations. Establish, create a positive and safe atmosphere adhering to safety standard practices for student athletes and maintaining confidential information. Mentor students by referring them to support services, programs, available resources and other professionals as appropriate. Lead in recruiting, identifying and attracting promising students. Ensure program compliance, establish and monitor effective procedures, reporting any violations to the Athletic Director. Promote interest and attendance at athletic events; lead in fund-raising efforts for the program. Provide work direction to others.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

On this list are any bachelor’s degree and two years of experience, or any associate degree and six years of experience. All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

Possession of California Community College Credential in Physical Education

OR

The equivalent.

A combination of education and other accomplishments that are equivalent to the above (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement which presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g. transcripts, publications, other work products):

AND

Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Required Licenses or Certifications

A First Aid Certificate issued by a recognized First Aid training program must be obtained within the first three months of employment.

A CPR Certificate issued by a recognized CPR training program must be obtained within the first three months of employment.

A valid Class “B” California Driver License

Desirable Qualifications

College coaching experience in subject sport preferred

Salary & Benefits

The salary is based on the teaching assignment.

Coaching assignments may include a coaching stipend

Hourly lecture rate — $84.09

Hourly lab rate — $67.28
