You will be responsible for getting hands-on with brand new hardware+software, and begin by driving progress toward an internal prototype that is sufficiently usable and stable for our employees to try in their homes. - You will then plan Sonos's overall approach to software quality assurance for the new product category, and help understand the composition of the team required to deliver upon our promise. Software Quality is part of a collaborative effort that works alongside hardware verification, user research, privacy + security, and beta programs to ensure Sonos products work in the field as well as they do in our lab. - -Role LocationThis role requires hands-on testing of early prototype hardware and AV equipment. Eligible candidates should be commutable to our Boston or Santa Barbara office, open to Sonos provided relocation support, or have a home lab set-up.What You'll Do

• Work with Engineering, Product Management, Design, and Executive Leadership to learn about what we intend to deliver. - Understand best practices for testing similar products.
• Get hands on with the new hardware and software, and verify that our internal prototype is ready for "dogfooding" with employees and early adopters.
• Create the test plan for the next development phases. - Determine the logs and diagnostics we need to collect to find software bugs and render them reproducible. Identify specialized expertise we will add to the team.
• Participate in user research to hear directly from customers experiencing the product for the first time, making you a better internal champion for their needs.
• Launch a new product category for Sonos that many of your friends and family will use in their homes and workplaces, on a team that has a clear mission and listens to your input.What You'll NeedBasic Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in software quality assurance. - We are looking for an individual contributor ready to take their next career step.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, Android, and iOS.
  • A broad understanding of techniques used to test modern software, and strong intuition about what is appropriate at different levels of software maturity.
  • An ability to deliver immediate value as an individual contributor, while setting us up for the future. A sense of what team is required at each stage as new software reaches maturity. -
  • An understanding of software test schedules and the insight to be able to assign appropriate work to members of a team.
  • Experience building software that distinguishes itself through the quality of its user experience AND/OR experience testing a system whose reliability and performance is critical to its success. -
  • An eye for software test talent and attracting other high performing testers. -
  • Experience with commercial software development practices (bug databases, source control, release management discipline, continuous integration, logging and telemetry, bug triage, etc). -
  • Exceptional debugging skills and a willingness to delve into and learn new areas. -Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or similar technical field.
    • Experience testing client-server applications.
    • Experience debugging new software in parallel with new hardware that runs it. -
    • Familiarity with computer graphics-related software (development frameworks such as SwiftUI or Jetpack Compose, AV codecs and AV formats, HDMI, etc)#LI-RemoteWe consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience and qualifications. - This job is also eligible for discretionary bonuses as well as an opportunity to become a Sonos shareholder because all full time employees are eligible for stock grants. - The minimum base pay may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.
