A Gelsons Markets Assistant Manager is responsible for providing superior customer service and managing the front-end operations of the store, overseeing the presentation of the Grocery department, and ensuring proper stock levels are maintained. This includes assisting with stocking shelves and providing customer service in the checkstand when needed. The position is also responsible for ensuring the other departments within the store are providing excellent customer service and appropriate merchandising presentation. The ability and desire to lead and motivate others is an important facet of the position. The Assistant Manager will come in direct contact with our customers. Excellent customer service, attentive listening, and resourceful assistance are vital to this position. The ability to interact and communicate effectively with customers and all levels of staff within Gelsons Markets is essential. The ideal candidate must possess strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for following company policies and implementing various initiatives as required. The Assistant Manager position is an hourly, union position, and pay rate is determined by the collective bargaining agreement. Experience within grocery industry or similar background is mandatory. Must possess a high School diploma or GED, along with computer skills - including basic Word and Excel Physical requirements: * Regular hand movement including, grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation * Reaching above and at shoulder level frequently * Standing up to 8 hours per day * Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. * Working near hazardous equipment (bailer, trash compactor) * Walking on uneven ground (loading dock, stairs) * Occasional exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and extremes in temperatures
