Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Undergraduate Program Manager-Dept of Art
The Undergraduate Program Manager coordinates all aspects of student advising for the department of Art. Serves as daily advisor to more than 400 undergraduate students on matters concerning their academic welfare. Acts as liaison with students, faculty, staff, College of Letters and Science, Admissions, Registrar, Orientation Programs, and other university offices. Assists in curriculum development and class scheduling. Administers student outreach and transfer activities.

Minimum Requirements
Demonstrated advising experience. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and significant experience in advising, preferably in an academic setting. Demonstrated ability to handle large volumes of detailed records/forms quickly, neatly and accurately. Ability to determine priorities, meet deadlines with frequent interruptions, anticipate job requirements, organize workflow, and work independently. Able to interpret and communicate UC policies and procedures pertaining to student affairs to students and faculty. Possess computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and the Internet.

Desirable Requirements
Experience in UC advising and knowledge of UC advising policies and procedures. Knowledge of, but not limited to software programs: MS Office, Filemaker, Photoshop, Mulberry

Advising
Advises majors and prospective majors, and minors about departmental requirements, options for emphases, important policies/procedures and departmental course scheduling.

Works with faculty advisors in annual degree checks, class offerings, evaluations and adjustments to quarterly Schedule of Classes. Coordinates with faculty to insure that degree required classes are offered on a regular or consistent basis.

Reviews and acts on petitions for graduation matters concerning transfer of units, substitution of classes other than those stipulated by departmental requirements including major and minor requirement waivers. Gathers necessary data/signatures to facilitate/finalize paperwork.

Supports increased diversity and individual needs of majors, minors and non-majors while maintaining departmental requirements.

Develops strong connections with staff in the College of Letters and Science and the Office of the Registrar in order to facilitate student progress through the major.
