Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) The Associate
Director has overall responsibility for the Alumni Association's
largest program (Family Vacation Center) and its most visible
program (All Gaucho Reunion), and Corporate Sponsorships, and
reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Alumni
Affairs/Executive Director, Alumni Association. The Associate
Director has overall responsibility for a multi-pronged engagement
strategy for UCSB alumni that includes numerous campus-based and
regional events, a new set of "Professional Development"
initiatives for alumni, student activities intended to foster a
culture of philanthropy, and major events including the All Gaucho
Reunion, Alumni Awards Dinner and Exceptional Women, Exceptional
Gauchos. This includes oversight, management and supervision of
five FTE (Programs Director, Director of Alumni Professional
Engagement and Programs Coordinator, Director of Business
Development, Director of Family Vacation Center, and the Senior
Artist) and approximately six student or limited employees. Ensures
that all financial, staffing and programmatic goals are established
and met. Has an overall responsibility for strategic planning and
design of programs that achieve Alumni Association, campus,
division and department goals and objectives.
The Associate Director has a major role in the UCSB Alumni
Strategic Plan, Vision 2025: Your Story Continues Here. Tasked to
increase the number of engaged alumni by 40% by the year 2025. Is a
member of the Alumni Affairs management team, involved in
long-range planning, decision-making, and policy and procedure
formulation and management, both related to these program areas and
to other program areas within the department. The Associate
Director serves as primary liaison to several Alumni Association
Board of Directors Committees, and the Office of the President and
other UC campuses, as related to these program areas. The Associate
Director is in charge of the management for Career Services
programs and staff and is ultimately responsible for an annual
budget of approximately $750,000.
As a member of the Alumni Affairs management team, has a leadership
role in short- and long-range planning, decision-making, department
management and oversight, and policy and procedure formulation and
management. Serves as primary liaison to Association Board of
Directors' committees as designated by the AVC. In the absence of
the Assistant Vice Chancellor, acts on his behalf. Requires
frequent, independent interaction and coordination with managers of
multiple campus departments, units of Alumni Affairs, its Board of
Directors, alumni, volunteers, and independent vendors.

resource for interested alumni and other individuals.
