Founded in 1973, the UC Santa Barbara Foundation is a non-profit, public-benefit corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. The Board is dedicated to the advancement of UC Santa Barbara by providing its constituencies with a better understanding of UCSB's teaching, research and public service mission and accomplishments. As an organized entity, the Foundation serves to promote UC Santa Barbara's private philanthropy and manage its donated resources.
The Foundation holds total assets in excess of $300 million, and these assets are comprised of approximately 850 funds independently audited on an annual basis. The Foundation releases quarterly financial reports for each fund compiled out of the CFO office. The Foundation processes in excess of 15,000 transactions relating to $100-$150 million in gifts annually. The database supporting this activity encompasses data on over 350,000 individuals, corporations and foundations.

Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Under general direction of the Executive Director of the UC Santa Barbara Foundation (Foundation) and the Chancellor, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic leadership for the organization's financial assets, and manages all financial, tax, accounting, and legally required reporting activities of the Foundation. Serving as an ex-officio Trustee and a member of the Executive Committee of the Foundation, the CFO works directly with the Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor, Deans, and Directors to ensure that campus gifts, both Foundation and Regents, are solicited, accepted, and administered in conformance with Federal, State, UC, and campus policies, as well as the recordation and Gift Fund administration. The CFO works directly with the Associate Chancellor for Budget and Planning, the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services and the Director of Audit & Advisory Services to assure departmental fiduciary responsibilities fulfilled on all gift funds on a campus-wide basis.

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of The Foundation including working closely with The Foundation's Finance, Audit and Investment Committees and provides these committees with information and analyses relating to the investment portfolio and associated policy requirements.

* Assists with gifts of real property to The UCSB Foundation including coordination of environmental review and remediation, and execution and recordation of all required legal documents related to both the acceptance and liquidation of donations.

* Responsible for the preparation of The Foundation's annual operating plan that details staffing, operating programs, expenses and fund sources. These reports are provided to the Office of the President, Office of the General Counsel, the UC Treasurer, the Chancellor, Senior Administrative Officers, and Trustees, as appropriate.

* Supervises a staff (currently at 7) whose activities encompass accounting for all gifts to The UCSB Foundation, preparation and submission of State and Federal Tax Returns, and management of all Foundation operations, gift accounting and reporting.

* Serves as a member of the Campus Audit Committee and Campus Ethics and Compliance Committee.

* Oversees the design and implementation of a comprehensive gift compliance system that monitors a current list of almost 2,000 gift funds from current use gifts to endowments.

* Oversees on-campus management of both Foundation and UC Regents endowments (over $300 million) and $25 million in annual current use gift funds.

* Works closely with the Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor(s), and General Counsel to assure all necessary due diligence is completed.

* Works with the Associate Vice Chancellor(s) to advise on budget planning, allocations, and best practices.
* Serving as the in-house compliance expert, analyzes and interprets Accounting Standards and other regulatory directives to propose changes which would improve or enhance current accounting practices.

Minimum Requirements

* Ten or more years of financial experience in a management role, preferably within a university, non-profit organization, or a foundation.

* Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

* Significant experience providing oversight to audit activities as well as managing reporting, budget development and analysis, general ledger, and accounting for investments.

* Experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with executive staff to develop, model, and implement creative financial management strategies.

* Strong written and oral communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.

Desirable Requirements
* MBA and/or CFA is preferred.
