Job Description
Under mentorship of the Manager of Detector Packaging Operations, your group will provide Manufacturing Engineering support to the Detector Packaging Labs. Your group supports manufacturing, performs failure analysis, and continually improves processes. You will develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences and processes used in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies and final assemblies. We collaborate with design engineering on the release of new products. We estimate manufacturing costs, calculate time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements for new and existing product lines. We maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations. The work is engaging, combines creativity with detail, and mechanics with theory. Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage individual programs that are run through the Detector Packaging Line including:



  • Contributes to product development as a sustaining team member supporting Teledyne FLIR's Cooled and Uncooled Camera System level products.


  • Conducts product and process qualification planning, testing, and reporting for new designs and processes


  • Perform process development and generate work instructions


  • Evaluate product material & production defects and work corrective action with Quality Engineering, including evaluation of new suppliers or material changes


  • Address out of flow material and support Fabrication, Production Control and Quality/Reliability Engineering as needed


  • Performing all necessary SAP (other Manufacturing Execution Systems) transactions


  • Train operators in new processes and verify existing processes are being adhered to through feedback to the Production Manager


  • Supporting ISO certification as required by insuring current and accurate work instructions


  • Engage with the Tooling design group to implement production improving devices and fixtures


  • Cooperate with Test, Software and Systems engineering to ensure that accurate specifications are used for product assessment and validation


  • Focus on continuous improvement for output, yield and cost reduction (Sustaining Engineering)


  • Work with suppliers to for development and improvements to meet quality standards and requirements, including onsite visiting to their facilities as needed.


    The execution of the above tasks may include the following:


    • Generate and implement process documentation that is consistent with ISO 9001 requirements


    • Specify and procure new equipment as required to support development and production programs


    • Support Equipment Engineering by providing guidance on equipment operation and required periodic maintenance


    • Implement SPC practices as appropriate


    • Support and maintain WIP tracking methodologies


    • Conduct processes development and process improvement activities


    • Train and direct Operators on existing and new products as required


    • Work with Tool Design Engineering and Design Engineering on concurrent engineering


      Knowledge and Experience


      • Desired


      • Deep mechanical and vacuum systems technical experience


      • 4+ years as a Process, Design, Quality or Manufacturing Engineer


      • Material characterization understanding


      • Infrared vision systems experience


      • Vacuum Packaging Technology (cryocooler, dewar, Integrated Dewar Cooler Assemblies)


      • Process controls, Statistical Analysis (SPC, Hypothesis Testing, Design Of Experiments)


      • Lean Six-Sigma training and / or certification


      • Assembly process documentation


      • ISO 9001 process and procedures


      • Proficient computer skills - Word, Excel & Outlook


      • Camstar and SAP knowledge


      • Ability to use microscopes, calipers and micrometers


      • Ability to work using hands and have good manual dexterity


      • Required items


      • US Citizen or Permanent Resident status


      • BS in Engineering or Technical discipline required (Mechanical, Chemical, Physics, Material Sciences)


      • Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English


      • Able to travel when needed for short periods
