Job Description:
L3Harris has an opening in the project engineering organization within the Seabed Systems (SBS) site located in Santa Barbara, CA. This L3Harris site, previously known as MariPro has been growing in business since the 1960s. SBS is a supplier of long life undersea sensor and communication systems for the U.S. and foreign Navies, commercial, academic, and scientific customers.
The ideal candidate for this position comes from a background in systems engineering, engineering IPT lead, operations product manager, or technical program manager.
A project engineer leads the technical aspects of a program and project. The project engineer is often the backup for the program manager, and reports both to a the Sr. Project Engineering Manager and the Program Manager.
This role is recognized as an internal expert and thought leader in area of expertise with broad experience across multiple technical and program areas. Works under consultative direction against annual goals to manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization. Influences leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts. Develops or champions new systems, concepts, or technologies. Recommends tactics and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results.
Essential Functions:



  • Responsible for the day-to-day tactical duties for assigned programs


  • Oversees and coordinates the cost/schedule/technical aspects of ongoing engineering projects within the program guidelines set by the Program Manager and customer


  • Serves as point-of-contact between engineering project management and planning, engineering project team, and line management


  • Reviews status of engineering projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares program and functional status reports


  • Assesses engineering project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives


  • Coordinates with the Sr. Manager for Project Engineering and site Director of Engineering


  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring engineering project progress and for intervention and problem solving with engineering project managers, line managers, and customers


  • Provides the coordination between resource managers/supervisors and ensures all necessary reviews and approvals are received


  • Viewed as an expert and/or resource within the field by peers in and outside the organization


  • Ability to support intermittent travel, up to 10-20% of the time


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance


    Hybrid Flexibility:
    This position may require employee on-site presence of 1-2 days per week. Hybrid arrangements within 6 hours driving distance of Santa Barbara, CA can be made.
    Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience


    • Or, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience


      Preferred Additional Skills:


      • Mastery level knowledge within a specific technical area, or multiple job areas typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience


      • Experience in leading cross-functional teams


      • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, critical path management


      • Experience in Earned Value Management (EVMS)


      • Able to read cost reports and generate ETCs


      • Ability to manage expectations and identify scope changes in dynamic customer requirements


        In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $120,000- $223,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
