Job SummaryAvantor is looking for a Reliability and Rotating
Equipment Engineer to evaluate and analyze products, components,
materials, and equipment for the purpose of understanding and
predicting failures.This role will be a full-time position based
out of our Bakersfield, CA or Carpinteria, CA offices. You will
have the opportunity to collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing,
Reliability & Maintenance Mechanics, and Process Engineering to
plan and design equipment upgrades and optimization to support our
company's fixed and rotating equipment fleet!What we're looking
for:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters
degree preferred
- Experience:5+ years related experience to include working with
rotating equipment including agitators, pumps, turbines,
compressors, etc.; Proficiency in CAD modeling, FEA, design
optimizations (preferably SolidWorks); Familiarity with OSHA PSM
Mechanical Integrity requirements and regulations
- Preferred Qualifications:
- SAP and/or experience with a Computerized Maintenance
Management System
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects
Analysis, and other risk assessment tools
- Ability to produce experimental data to drive decisions*How you

- Review product designs, material specifications, and
manufacturing capability to predict reliability and
dependability
- Create prototypes and conduct product tests to gather
reliability data
- Interpret test results and recommend solutions using
appropriate statistical distributions and reliability models
- Recommend product design changes or alterations in
manufacturing processes and controls to ensure achievement of
required reliability levels
- Monitor production equipment diagnostics and review maintenance
record in order to predict and prevent equipment down times
- Document findings, including results of root cause analysis,
and facilitate the implementation of necessary changes to ensure
product and/or equipment reliability levels are maintained
- Act as internal subject matter expert for rotating equipment,
while driving efficiency and substantive improvement in the
operation of the equipment.
- Lead the refurbishment and repair of rotating and fixed
equipment
- Assess, troubleshoot, and drive improvement efforts for
rotating equipment fleet
- Convert CMMS to task lists, plans, and strategies in new SAP
environment
- Function as the key user for Engineering in SAP go-live and
beyond and training Engineering team on EAM functions
- Troubleshoot and repair down equipment, occasionally leading
groups of mechanics and engineers
- Maintenance and Reliability program development and
implementation
- Cross-site coordination for parts stock and inventory
development and management, equipment modifications and studies,
and streamlining of maintenance plans
- Preventive maintenance writing and scheduling
- Documentation activities including Installation/Operational
Qualification, Equipment Operating Procedures, Work Instructions
(LOTO, Preventative Maintenance), safety training
- Involvement in equipment PSM, including Process Hazard
Analysis, Process Safety Information, and Mechanical Integrity
- Design and install optimized components for the equipment
fleet
- Build and maintain contractor and vendor relationships to
address reliability-related repairs and maintenance
- Scope and execute capital projects for reliability-related
improvements / repairs
- Perform return on investment (ROI) calculations for growth
capital projects
- Uphold and implement Safety Procedures and High Hazard permits
for associates and contractors
- Investigate injury and incident reports related to engineering
personnel or equipment reliability-related issues
- May determine maintenance requirements and schedules for
products and equipment and direct Engineering Mechanics /
Electricians / Contractors on aspects of various projectsWhy
