Outsourcing Specialist/Manufacturing Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity available for a skilled manufacturing engineer & outsourcing specialist to develop and implement production process improvement, new product introduction into operations, cost reduction through outsourcing, quality and delivery initiatives for our assembly and testing processes while maintaining a critical customer focus. You'll utilize your technical background to drive positive change in a low volume, high mix, high complexity environment. The Role
Implement cost reduction and process simplification strategies by outsourcing components such as cables, PCBs and subassemblies.
Ensure build documentation is complete, up to date and under strict revision control including BOMs, drawings, assembly instructions and test protocols to support the outsourcing efforts. Implement a rigorous change management process for outsourced components.
Develop long-lasting relationships with outsourcing partners. Travel to local and international vendor sites to qualify new suppliers, audit manufacturing capability/quality and facilitate a thorough technology transfer.
Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise. Escalate technical issues within the organization whenever specific technical expertise is required.
Generate and track metrics such as cost savings and vendor quality to measure outsourcing progress. Maintain a record of issues, defects, their resolution and validate corrective actions implemented.
Develop a make versus buy decision making process to ensure our outsourcing program is effective and adding value.
Where required or effective, maintain a demand forecast for the suppliers.
Promote a world class environment of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Be an advocate for change, process improvement and quality within the business.
Support and instill a culture of process discipline and controlled change, in partnership with engineering and operations teams to deliver on desired results and engage everyone involved.

The Candidate
Successful candidates will have:
A bachelor's degree in technical engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
Three to five years' experience working as an engineer in a capital equipment manufacturing environment.
Specific examples of hands-on outsourcing experience with multiple parts (PCBs, cables, optical assemblies, electronic assemblies) and multiple vendors. International outsourcing experience desired.
Proficiency using ERP in a technical manufacturing environment (creating BOMs, POs, change orders, etc.)
Experience with SolidWorks and the development of specification drawings for parts and assemblies.
A continuous improvement mindset and the desire/ability to drive positive change within the organization, and measure the impact of changes through metrics, quality to customer, and business targets.
