We have a great career opportunity available for skilled Customer Support Engineer to install, train and provide ongoing maintenance for complex atomic force microscope (AFM) systems throughout North and South America. As one of our small team of field engineers, your day-to-day interactions with our customers will drive a key part of our business strategy, which is to provide an outstanding customer experience throughout the entire product ownership lifecycle. This is a perfect role for someone with a technical background who loves to travel, interact with customers in high tech settings, and solve problems on the fly.. The Role. Travel to customer sites to perform installations, basic training, troubleshooting and repairs, always providing world class customer service to ensure customer satisfaction and engagement after every visit.. Thoroughly document completed work, outstanding issues, and time spent to drive quality metrics, timely service billing and overall process improvement efforts.. Provide excellent technical customer support via phone, chat, and email.. Propose and implement continuous improvements to service as an overall function, through process optimization and creation of technical guides and documentation.. Build relationships with new and existing customers by regularly visiting labs and other customer sites.. The Candidate. Successful candidates will have:. A degree in engineering, electronics, physics, materials science or equivalent practical experience; a background in atomic force microscopy strongly preferred.. Willingness to travel up to 75% time; the ideal candidate will be based in Santa Barbara, but open to the right person being based near another west coast hub (i.e., Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle). Broad instrumentation troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.. The ability to work well with others, including internal colleagues and external customers, on complex technical problems while providing excellent customer service in stressful, high-pressure situations.. Excellent customer-facing interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.. Business Overview.
