We are searching for a dynamic Manufacturing Engineer Supervisor to join our team in Goleta, CA. Job Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer Lead will provide leadership and direction for Manufacturing Engineering. The position will assign and supervise resources to support projects and programs, develop processes, tooling, manufacturing instructions, and equipment to support customer requirements and production schedules.The position will report to the Manager, Manufacturing and Operations, and will based out of Goleta, CA. Essential Functions: * Lead a staff of Manufacturing Engineers. Select, develop and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Monitor productivity of direct reports and assure efficiency and consistency of work. Conduct performance and development discussions as needed. Mentor staff to ensure future growth. * Interface with other L-3 Manufacturing organizations to collaborate on Best Practices. * Responsible for the preparation of manufacturing methods for products and prototypes to document manufacturing requirements. * Responsible for the design, development, modification and implementation of equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process. * Lead and facilitate problem solving and cross functional teams to resolve product/process issues for manufacturing processes and products. * Provide technical support to manufacturing and improve productivity and reduce costs. * Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing and implementing manufacturing plans * Assist in the planning, development and execution of off-site manufacturing operations and travel as required to support successful operations. * Ensure proper use of all safety regulations and equipment used in manufacturing. * Actively drive L-3 Six Sigma/continuous process improvement activities including Lean, 5S, process/equipment innovation and other initiatives. * Directly interface with engineering and business development to prepare labor and material estimates for proposals. * Directly interface with production planning/production control to ensure commitments, schedules, and obligations are met. * Establish metrics for manufacturing engineering deliverables to be utilized by management. * Assist procurement in supplier selection and validation of supplier process capabilities and process controls. Additional Responsibilities: * May perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload. * Backfill for the Manufacturing and Operations Manager. Education and Experience: * A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited school in related field required, preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or Process Engineering. * Ten (10) years of related experience, with three (3) years of supervisory experience. * Proven track record of leadership skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of management and customers. Must be able to effectively delegate and work collaboratively with other functional departments. * Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate problem solving and cross functional teams. * Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems required. * Demonstated ability to plan ahead and perform factory, people, and resource capacity analysis and identify and solve constraints before they become problems. * Demonstrated computer skills (MS Word & Excel, process flow software, Solid Works). * Demonstrated mechanical, electrical, and/or general engineering problem solving skills. * Fiber optic cable jointing and testing experience desirable. * Ablility to operate common electronic test equipment (e.g. OTDR, HiPot, optical power meters, multimeters etc.) desirable * Experience in polyurethane molding desirable. * Strong working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology preferred. Certificates and Licenses Required: * Valid state driver's license. * Secret Clearance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Strong analytic and communication skills. * Excellent computer skills; ability to comprehend new hardware / software applications. * Ability to write a concise report of findings. * Effective human relation skills are essential. * Ability to speak, read and write the English language. * Requires the ability to interpret and communicate engineering plans and specifications. * Sound understanding of engineering theory, design verification, and troubleshooting. * Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, machining, and quality production methods. Physical Demands: * Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. * Employee regularly sits while using upper body movements including arms, hands and fingers operating computer equipment and other office equipment. * Employee occasionally stands and/or walks to go into meetings or for discussions with other administrative / office personnel. * Employee occasionally reaches with hands and arms in moving tools equipment and/or products as needed. Other Work Conditions and Requirements: * Employee works in a quiet to moderately noisy environment. * 10% travel may be required for several days on short notice via auto/air/rail. Network Analysis: * Commonly interacts with all groups within the company: Engineering, Quality Assurance, Technicians, Planning, Program Management, Sea Operations, and other administrative staff.
