Overview Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and
reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is
responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and
transmission operations, including planning, engineering,
maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented
classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing
employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective
bargaining. Under the direction of a Gas Crew Leader, Fitter or Gas
Mechanic, individual will perform such duties as installing leak
repair clamps, domestic meter sets, miscellaneous pipe fitting,
operating equipment such as earth-boring equipment, small pressure
control equipment, leak detectors, pipe locaters, small trenchers
and other equipment of 80 lbs. or less. May work alone in
performing such duties as truck driving, operating compressors,
concrete saws, routine leak surveys, pipe locating and taking pipe
to soil potentials. Perform clerical work associated with these
duties. This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation)
covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol
screenings. This position will be in the South region in the
PG&E service territory. The position will be headquarter in
Ridgecrest subject to change based on business needs. PG&E is
providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes
it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This
position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and
increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $50.86 hour.
This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage
rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to,
specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,
market value, geographic location, collective bargaining
agreements, and internal equity. Job Responsibilities
DOT-Operations/Maintenance AND Emergency Primary Responsibility:
Conduct pipe location, leak surveys, and investigations. Raise
manhole covers, drive, paint the street after being chalked, and
hold one end of the pipe locator. Use truck mounted compressor,
operate jackhammers, spades, drills. Manual excavation of trenches
and bell holes using shovels, picks, and digging bars. Use portable
trenchers (such as "Ditch Witch"). Fabricate and alter meter sets
using threaded fittings. Perform the operation of a dump truck with
a loader on the front. Perform field paperwork for transmission and
distribution crews, including but not limited to, processing of
time cards and job cost reports; ordering, receiving and delivering
material. Installs and maintains Gas and Electric underground
conduits and substructures. Locates underground facilities.
Operates pneumatic earth boring equipment Performs basic carpenter
work such as simple form work, fence repairs, retaining walls, and
cutting and nailing of lumber. Performs fabrication of meter sets
using screwed fittings up to two inch. Performs leak investigations
and repairs Performs plastic fusion such as socket joints, service
tees, and saddle connections on plastic pipe Performs relighting of
pilot lights. Assists the crew Leader with associated paperwork as
needed. Operates small walk behind power equipment. Qualifications
Minimum: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a High
School diploma, GED, or equivalent related work experience CA Class
C License, or equivalent Must possess a valid Class A California
Driver's Permit by Day 1 of hire Must possess a valid DMV Medical
Card by Day 1 of hire Ability to work in all types of weather
extremes Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays Must
be able to lift up to 90 pounds a minimum of one time a day Must be
able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ability to pass federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing
Desired: Possess a valid California Class A Driver's License 1 year
of utility construction experience 1 year of experience in utility
maintenance, underground 1 year of experience in gas pipeline
Knowledge of gas standards and specifications Demonstrated ability
to work with others and follow directions To better represent the
