We seek staff and faculty who embrace our commitments.Vision Statement:Santa Barbara City College strives to build a socially conscious community where knowledge and respect empower individuals to transform our world.Mission Statement:As a public community college dedicated to the success of each student…Santa Barbara City College provides students a diverse learning environment that inspires curiosity and discovery, promotes global responsibility, and fosters opportunity for all.College Facts (as of Fall 2018)--- Instruction, administrative, and support services are provided by 247 full-time faculty, 523 adjunct faculty, and 366 full-time staff and management.--- Santa Barbara City College currently enrolls approximately 16177 students, the majority of whom are from racially diverse populations as follows: African American/Black – 2.9%; American Indian/Alaskan Native: 0.4%; Asian/Filipino/Pacific Islander- 8.0%; Hispanic/Latinx – 39.1%; two or more races – 5.0.%; Unknown – 1.4%; and White: 42.8%.--- 37.0% of SBCC's students are under age 19, 34.8% are between the ages 20 and 24, 19.5% are between the ages of 25 and 39, and 8.8% are 40 or older.--- 39.7% of SBCC's students attend full time (12 units or more), and 60.3% of SBCC students attend part- time.--- In 2009, SBCC gained the status of Hispanic Serving Institution, which among many other benefits, made us eligible to apply for federal grants geared toward strengthening institutional capacity and building programs to increase the success of Hispanic and other underrepresented students.--- The College recently adopted the Umoja program, a transfer success program geared toward African-American and other black students.--- In 2018, Santa Barbara City College celebrates 100 years of Adult Education in the Santa Barbara community.December 2, 2019Job # 122019-R3Application Deadline: Completed online applications must be submitted by Monday, January 27, 2020 PM PST.Essential Functions of Position:Commencing Fall 2020, a full-time, tenure-track faculty position will be available in the Business Administration Department. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in business law. Additional responsibilities will include full participation in departmental activities, which include: curriculum development and program review; peer review; participation in the governance of the college via committee assignment; assignment; advising and counseling students; maintenance of posted/required office hours; and sponsoring and/or participating in student activities.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.1. Master's in Business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education OR 2. Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree OR3. Bachelor's in economics with a business emphasis ANDMaster's in personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree.4. Combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement that presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications, and other work products.); OR 5. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in the above discipline.6. Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.If the title of your degree as stated on your transcripts does not exactly match one of the degree titles listed in the minimum qualifications, you must complete an equivalency statement and attach it in the "Equivalency field" under the documents needed to apply. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalency process.Desirable Qualifications:--- Teaching experience (one-year minimum), preferably at a community college.--- Experience in providing legal advice and consultation to business.--- Experience teaching legal reasoning.--- Experience teaching legal theories as they apply to a hypothetical fact situation.--- Expertise in, but not limited to, the legal system, crimes, torts, contracts, agency and government regulation.--- Experience using the Canvas Learning Management System.--- Experience teaching online.--- Ability to work well with a variety or faculty members, administrators, and classified staff.--- Experience in working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic, language, and disability backgrounds.--- Experience using various teaching and learning strategies.Salary & Personnel Benefits:The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track faculty member is $60,856 - $95,406 plus an earned doctoral bonus of $3,042.80. Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one-step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $121,454, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience.
